We’ve now completed Day 2 of NBA free agency and to say that it has been an eventful past 36 hours or so would be a major understatement — especially if you consider the fact that teams from across the league have now spent close to $2 billion in committed salaries. Needless to say, a lot of players got paid, and a lot of teams dug deep into their pockets to get this done.
The Milwaukee Bucks had their fair share of the pie. This team entered free agency with a clear list of priorities, and they made sure to get it done.
Milwaukee Bucks Ranks Top 4 In NBA Free Agency Spending
As of writing, the Bucks have made a total of three free-agent signings. At the top of their list was Khris Middleton who agreed to a massive $102 million deal for three years. On Saturday, Milwaukee then secured the future of Brook Lopez with the team via a two-year extension worth $48 million. Finally, the Bucks were also able to retain the services of Jae Crowder on a one-year contract, although the details of his new deal have yet to be made public.
Not including Crowder’s deal, the Bucks have spent a whopping $150 million in the first two days of NBA free agency. That’s an undeniably large amount considering how this was spent for just two players.
Houston Rockets Are Top Spenders, Followed By Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers
What’s even more mind-boggling, though, is that the Bucks were far from the biggest spenders in NBA free agency. Unsurprisingly, that honor belongs to the Houston Rockets, who splashed the cash on Fred VanVleet. The Rockets really, really wanted FVV, and they put their money where their mouth was with a $128.5 million, three-year max deal. On top of that, Houston also paid Dillon Brooks $80 million for four years, Jock Landale $32 million for four years, and finally, Jeff Green $6 million for one year. All in all, the Rockets committed $246 million to claim the top spot on this list.
A distant second is the Los Angeles Lakers who spent a combined $191 million between Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes, and Taurean Prince. The Lakers have signed the most players (seven) thus far.
Rounding out the Top 3 is the Portland Trail Blazers and their $160 million expenditure. Amazingly, that was spent on just one player — Jerami Grant and his five-year deal. Apparently, this still wasn’t enough to convince Damian Lillard to stay.
Notably, there are four teams in the NBA that have yet to make any signings in free agency. These are the Atlanta Hawks, the Charlotte Hornets, the Detroit Pistons, and the Utah Jazz.
