MLB Power Rankings: The Milwaukee Brewers currently own the league’s longest winning streak of eight games. During this stretch they have swept the Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, and San Diego Padres. This week they went 5-0 and moved up two spots in the latest power rankings update.
The Milwaukee Brewers moved up to seventh overall in the latest MLB power rankings (MLB News).
According to the power rankings provided by CBS, Milwaukee is now the seventh best team in the league. At 73-57 the other two teams with at least 70 wins that they trail are the Houston Astros (74-58) and Seattle Mariners (74-56). The Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Atlanta Braves all have at least 80 wins already.
One nice part about the Brewers is that they really have been playing good baseball since the end of June and it is not just this eight game winning streak as the primary reason for them moving up in the power rankings. Matt Synder at CBS provided this information on Milwaukee.
The Brewers have won eight in a row and, despite a furious effort from the Cubs, hold a four-game lead in the NL Central. They’ve actually won 12 of 15 and those three losses came to the Dodgers, which is hardly an indictment. Since June 24, the Brewers are 34-20, which is a 162-game pace of 102 wins.
All that being said Milwaukee has a lot at stake during their next series in which they will face the Chicago Cubs, who are ranked ninth in today’s power rankings. If the season ended today the Cubs would be in the playoffs via the Wild Card, but they are just four games back of the Brewers in the NL Central Division. These next three games will have big playoff implications.
