MLB news: Just as Rowdy Tellez was recovering from a forearm injury that kept him out of the Milwaukee Brewers for some time, disaster struck. The 28-year-old was shagging fly balls before one of his team’s games, and he ended up getting his finger caught in the chain-link fence. It was a gruesome injury that unfortunately, forced Tellez to sit out even more time for Milwaukee.
MLB News: Rowdy Tellez Speaks Out on Freak Injury

Rowdy Tellez has now opened up about the freak injury that has him watching the Brewers from the sidelines. The Milwaukee first baseman got brutally honest in expressing how disappointed he is with his current situation:
“It is frustrating,” Tellez said Sunday morning, via Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Especially knowing it was kind of a freak injury.”
Tellez also admitted that he feels a bit ashamed about the circumstances of this new injury and how ultimately, he’s unhappy with the fact that he’s not out there to help his team:
“I never shag fly balls, and the one time I do I put my hand up against the fence, missed the fence and caught my fingernail and ripped it off,” Tellez said. “It kind of stinks. It’s kind of embarrassing, because I feel like I let my team down. Especially having a fully healthy year last year and having a good year to now having to deal with injuries and playing through them and not being able to handle it.
“I was out there just power shagging and sweating and trying to do something. Chain-link fence, and it got stuck in it. Immediately I felt it. Went running in and had surgery that night. Came back right as the game was ending. Able to close my hand pretty much now.”
It took Tellez some time before he openly spoke about this new injury, and based on his comments above, it is clear that he’s feeling somewhat self-conscious by all this.
MLB News: Rowdy Tellez’s Target Return Date, Revealed

The good news for Brewers fans is that Rowdy Tellez is now recovering well. The initial diagnosis when he suffered the injury on July 15 was that he was going to be sidelined for up to one month. As of now, he seems to be on track with that projection. At this point, Tellez says that the pain has subsided significantly:
“The first five days, it was pretty painful,” Tellez said. “It’s not so much the stitches as the fracture. I’m off pain medication and just kind of rolling with it.
“It’s just how much pain can I handle.”
Rowdy Tellez also revealed that he’s hoping to return to the field at one point in Milwaukee’s nine-game road trip in August. The Brewers’ August 15th matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers has been penciled in as his potential return date.
Right now, Tellez is just itching to get back out there:
“I need to get back as soon as I can and help them out,” he said.
He’ll get his chance soon enough.
