The 2024 MLB season just keeps on getting better for Milwaukee Brewers star Willy Adames. The 29-year-old shortstop became just the first Brewers shortstop ever in franchise history to have at least 30 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season after he swiped second base in the top of the second inning during Tuesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road.
Adam sounded grateful about the success he is having this season when asked to reflect on the feat he just accomplished.
“It’s a special season,” Adames said after the game, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.
“This is a special moment for me and my family, especially at this point in my career. I think it’s just all the work that we’ve done is paying off right now. It makes me feel happy that after all that work we’ve done, you’re able to see the numbers. Obviously, winning too. I feel like that makes it even more special when you’re winning.”
Adames did more than just steal a base in the Brewers’ 7-2 win over the Pirates, as he also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk.
On the season, Adames is hitting .252/.332/.470 with 32 home runs and 111 RBIs.
Willy Adames, Milwaukee Brewers still need to finish season strong
Adames and the Brewers have already clinched a playoff berth in the National League by way of winning the National League Central division. However, they are still chasing a better seed in the postseason. With a 90-67 record, the Brewers are trailing the league-leading Los Angeles Dodgers by three games, the Philadelphia Phillies by half 2.5 games, and the San Diego Padres by a game.
