The Milwaukee Brewers 2022 International Signing class was headlined by Venezuelan shortstop Johan Barrios, Dominican Republic shortstop Jhonny Severino, and Venezuelan outfielder Luis Lara. Out of that group 18 year old Luis Lara is starting to shine and his prospect stock is quickly rising.
After signing in 2022 Luis Lara participated in the Dominican Summer League where he played in 58 games. During that time the switch hitter logged 200 at-bats, slashed .260/.341/.385, and had just a 12% k rate. This year he is currently playing in Low-A with the Carolina Mudcats.
18 year old Milwaukee Brewers outfield prospect Luis Lara is quickly increasing his prospect stock.
Through his first 32 games with the Mudcats Luis Lara is slashing .328/.453/.395. This equates to a .848 OPS. He has walked 26 times, stuck out on just 14 occasions, and has stolen 11 bases. While the power numbers are not there, he has just a 9.5% k rate this year and a 152 wRC+.
At 18 years old this is quite impressive. He is the same age as most High School seniors but is excelling in affiliated baseball. On the Mudcats he is the youngest player but he is not the only teenager on the team as Gregory Barrios, Luke Adams, and Jadher Areinamo are all in their teenage years.
For the Brewers this has the looks of being another great international signing. Highly regarded Jackson Chourio is the most well known teenage prospect in their system who was also signed out of Venezuela.
At this time Luis Lara has not cracked a top 100 prospect board, but if he continues to play to his strengths of contact and speed his prospect stock may start to gain traction.
