Milwaukee Brewers News: Two minor league pitchers for the Biloxi Shuckers have at least 90 strikeouts this season. At the time of this publication only three total pitchers in the Southern League have accomplished that.
Leading the Southern League in strikeouts is former 64th overall pick Connor Phillips. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners and eventually traded to the Cincinnati Reds. His 111 strikeouts this season are the most of any pitcher in the league.
The two pitchers with the second and third most strikeouts are both on the Biloxi Shuckers. They are Justin Jarvis with 91 strikeouts and Carlos Rodriguez with 90.
Milwaukee Brewers News: Biloxi Shucker pitchers Justin Jarvis and Carlos Rodriguez have both had incredible 2023 seasons.
Justin Jarvis, a former fifth round selection in the 2018 draft, has a 3.33 ERA over 14 starts this year in Double-A. Each year he has improved on the mound with 2023 being his most successful. He has three starts in which he allowed zero earned runs and one double digit strikeout performance.
Carlos Rodriguez was the Brewers 2022 MiLB pitcher of the year and he also performed quite well in the World Baseball Classic. He has carried this momentum into the 2023 season for he has a 3.09 ERA over his first 14 starts. An 11 strikeout game earlier this year set a new career high for him and he has another game with 10 punch outs. There is a lot to like with this 21 year old.
