MLB: Shohei Ohtani is arguably (or maybe not so arguably) the most electric player in baseball. At this point, it seems inevitable that All-Star Shohei Ohtani will be traded before he lets his contract with the Los Angeles Angels expire. For the most part, Shohei Ohtani’s upcoming free agency demands have remained a secret. That’s credit to Ohtani’s agency and his camp, as most star free agents give a tell or two during the regular season. It’s not secret that Ohtani will demand a large sum of money, and that the Angels seem unlikely to match. So who is emerging as the favorite for the franchise-changing player?
New York Yankees Emerge As Front-Runner For Shohei Ohtani

Appearing on Get Up, ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney said that the New York Yankees may be the “most motivated” team to acquire Ohtani if or when the Angels make him available.
“Well you start with the Yankees. The Yankees. The Yankees. The Yankees. The (Texas) Rangers and the (Tampa Bay) Rays… But there’s no doubt. Talking to a handful of teams yesterday and they see the Yankees as potentially being the most motivated because Gerrit Cole, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton – they’re middle-aged players right in the prime of their careers. This is the Yankees’ window to win now,” Olney said.
“You bring in Ohtani, suddenly the Yankees rotation with him involved looks so strong. Ohtani hitting in Yankee Stadium, which favors left-handed sluggers, that’s something I’m sure the Yankees would be willing to pay for if Ohtani is made available by the Angels.”
Could The New York Yankees Actually Trade For Shohei Ohtani

Obviously the Yankees can afford the contract of any player in the world. The question is whether the Yankees have assets that the Angels would want to bring such a trade to fruition. However, those assets may be worth it.
The 29-year-old Ohtani would elevate a Yankees lineup that finished the first half 28th in team batting average and 19th in runs. Judge, who hit an AL-record 62 home runs last season to win the 2022 MVP over Ohtani, hasn’t played since June 3 due to an injured big toe.
Ohtani would also help a Yankees rotation that’s been without Frankie Montas all season and only recently got back Carlos Rodon. Luis Severino, who also missed nearly two months due to injury, has a 7.38 ERA.
