The 2023 MLB Draft is in full swing. While LSU teammates Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews stole the show by going first and second overall a pair of Wake Forest players were also selected within the first 18 picks. At seventh the Cincinnati Reds took pitcher Rhett Lowder and at 18th the Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Brock Wilken.
MLB Draft: Wake Forest teammates selected in the first round by the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds.
For the Reds they bolstered their starting rotation depth by selecting Rhett Lowder. Some scouts believe that he has the potential to be a staple in the middle of a rotation and that he has one of the best changeups in the draft. He joins an already impressive Reds pitching group that features Hunter Greene, Andrew Abbott, Graham Ashcraft, and Ben Lively.
On the flip side Milwaukee finally has a legit third base prospect. Brock Wilken has a ton of power and a cannon for a throwing arm. If his bat plays at the next level he could be a star power hitting third baseman for many years to come.
It should be cool to see these two match up in the future. As former teammates they will have to switch the flip in the future as they will now be in opposite dugouts.
