The Minnesota Vikings signed former Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones just days after he was released. Jones and the Packers were unable to come to a contract agreement after weeks of negotiations. While it was surprising to see the Packers move on from Jones, it was even more surprising to see him sign with one of the Packers’ biggest rivals.
Now, the Vikings have made a trade that will directly impact their 2024 NFL Draft.
The Minnesota Vikings Make Massive 2024 Draft Trade Shortly After Acquiring Aaron Jones
According to multiple reports:
The Vikings have acquired the Texans’ No. 23 overall pick in the draft.
Minnesota Gets:
- 23rd (First Round)
- 232nd
Houston Gets:
- 42nd
- 188th
- 2nd in 2025
This trade give Minnesota two 2024 first round draft picks. It is very likely the Vikings are stocking up on as much draft capital as possible in an attempt to trade up for a quarterback in this years’ draft.
The Vikings were unable to re-sign Kirk Cousins, who signed a massive four year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.
This trade currently leaves the Vikings without any picks on Day 2, but Kwesi Adofo-Mensah believes the flexibility it gives them on Day 1 is more important. According to CBS Sports NFL Draft analyst Josh Edwards’ latest mock draft, the Vikings could trade up with the Chargers to select Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
