The Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers have been hit with the injury bug this season.  Both teams have had their season altered by the loss of some key contributors.  Heading into the biggest game of the season, that has been no different.

It was announced that the Vikings will be without yet another key defensive player when they face off against Jordan Love and the Packers offense.

According to Mark Craig of the Star Tribune:

Vikings cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. has been listed as out for Sunday night’s game against the Packers and will miss his second straight game because of a knee injury. Meanwhile, right tackle Brian O’Neill (ankle) will return after missing the past two games; he was given no injury designation on the final injury report.

Also listed as out are safety Theo Jackson (toe), receiver Jalen Nailor (concussion) and defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy (ankle). Listed as questionable with limited practice participation Thursday and Friday are receiver Jordan Addison (ankle), cornerback Mekhi Blackmon (shoulder) and linebacker Troy Dye (wrist). Addison, a rookie first-round pick, is trying to avoid missing the first game of his career.

How Will This Impact Jordan Love And The Packers Offense?

In Murphy’s place was Mekhi Blackmon, who was listed Friday as questionable to play Sunday against the Packers.  In the Vikings’ Christmas Eve game, the 24-year-old cornerback sustained a shoulder injury. He has two limited practices left, so he may suit up against the Rams on Sunday. Should Blackmon be inactive in Week 17, NaJee Thompson would likely see more snaps in Minnesota’s secondary.

It is very possible the Packers will be facing a depleted Vikings secondary on Sunday Night.  If the offensive line can buy Jordan Love some time in the pocket he shouldn’t have an issues finding open guys down field.  It will truly be a test of “next man up” as the Packers are dealing with a number of injuries at wide receiver as well.

Getting the passing game going early will allow the Packers to (hopefully) run at will.  Currently, the Vikings rank ninth in the NFL in rush yards allowed.
