The Milwaukee Bucks were supposed to go 2-0 on Sunday as they took on the Atlanta Hawks. Trae Young, however, did not get the memo. He led the Hawks to a 127-110 blowout win to mark Atlanta’s first win of the season.
The Bucks pretty much had no answer to the two-time All-Star as he torched Milwaukee on an evening when the Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard duo just weren’t able to connect.
Trae Young Dominates Vs. Milwaukee Bucks
It wasn’t exactly a mind-blowing performance from the Hawks point guard, but he was able to lead his team in the scoring department with 20 points. He was inefficient from the field, going 5-of-14 on his shots and 3-of-8 from distance. He dished out a game-high 11 dimes, though, making sure to get his teammates involved in the contest.
It was a balanced scoring effort from Atlanta, with no less than eight players scoring 12 points or more, including all five starters. Bogdan Bogdanovic was a standout off the bench, finishing with 17 points and six assists in 26 minutes of action.
Adrian Griffin Comments on Trae Young’s Heroics
After the game, Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin had nothing but praise for the 25-year-old guard. The rookie coach admitted that their defensive schemes just weren’t good enough against Young and the Hawks:
“Tried a little bit of everything,” Griffin said, via beat reporter Gabe Stoltz of Brew Hoop. “He’s a great player and he’s elusive and he;s tough. He has speed, he can turn the corner. It was tough because we play an aggressive style and unfortunately tonight, the whistle was kind of… made us a little timid where when we did lay off him, he was able to shoot the three. It was a tough night and we just gotta adjust to the calls.
“He’s a really good player, we tried a little bit of everything from blitzing and trapping. Bu they’re a very good team, a well-coached team, and tip your hat oof to them. We didn’t deserve to win and they did.”
The Bucks will need to dust themselves off quickly with a Monday night matchup against the Miami Heat coming up. It will be the second night of a back-to-back set for Milwaukee, so they will need to find some inspiration from somewhere when they battle the defending Eastern Conference champs.
