Thanks to Damian Lillard’s heroics on Sunday night against the Sacramento Kings, the Milwaukee Bucks are now riding a three-game winning streak. They’re one of the hottest teams in the NBA right now as they sit second in the East with a 28-12 record behind the Boston Celtics.
Despite their current standing, however, there’s no denying that the Bucks still have a lot of work to do for them to reach their ultimate objectives this season. As such, Milwaukee is expected to be active in the trade market as they look to fortify their roster.
Milwaukee Bucks Expected to Make Moves
Speaking on a recent episode of Brian Windhorst’s The Hoop Collective podcast, NBA insider Tim Bontemps of ESPN explained why he believes the Bucks are going to be active buyers toward the trade deadline:
“I would suspect the Bucks will try to do stuff. Jon Horst has typically been really aggressive in season, trying to make trades. I know they have limited trade assets. However, one asset they do have is Portland’s [2024] second-round pick, which is a pretty juicy second-round pick. They’ve got some expiring money to float around or some money to float around. I don’t know if they’ll get anything done given the situation they’re in, but I would suspect that they will explore stuff just based of Horst’s history,” Bontemps said (h/t Matthew Dugandzic of Bucks Zone.
Based on Bontemps’ statement here, it doesn’t sound like the Bucks are going to pull off another blockbuster trade like they did over the summer. If anything, Milwaukee will probably add one or two role players that can help them with their championship aspirations this season.
Bontemps also pointed out that based on history, Bucks general manager Jon Horst has had a knack for making significant moves mid-season:
“He went traded for Nikola Mirotic at the [2019] trade deadline, went and got Jae Crowder in last year’s trade deadline. Like, they’ve consistently gone and tried to make moves in the season,” Tim added.
