News of the Milwaukee Bucks firing Adrian Griffin and possibly replacing him with Doc Rivers has traveled far and wide in the NBA. Along with the likes of Jamal Crawford and Gilbert Arenas giving their opinion, Shaquille O’Neal also dropped an interesting take on the issue of Rivers’ possible hiring.
Speaking on TNT’s Game Break, the All-Star big man said that Rivers has lived for too long off the one championship he won with the Boston Celtics. Back in 2008, the one-time Coach of the Year steered the trio of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce to win the Finals over a Kobe Bryant-led Lakers team.
Since then, Rivers has gone on to coach the Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers. Both of those stints saw him handle various superstars but failed to replicate his success with the Celtics back in 2008.
At this point in time, Rivers is the strongest candidate to take over Griffin’s job as the Milwaukee Bucks’ head coach. It still remains to be seen whether the franchise will confirm his possible hiring in the coming days.

In the same video, O’Neal pivots from Rivers’ history as a coach to what he wishes for him if he gets the Bucks’ head coaching job.

O’Neal’s wish for Rivers, if it comes true, will solidify his legacy as an NBA coach. Furthermore, it will erase the times fans and critics alike saw him choke in the postseason with the Clippers and 76ers.
For that wish to happen, though, the Bucks will have to bite the bullet and hire Rivers as its next head coach. If that happens, it’ll be intriguing to see what he can do with the talented duo of Antetokounmpo and Lillard.
