The injury bug has plagued Khris Middleton over the past couple of seasons, and it could be a reason why the Milwaukee Bucks haven’t been to the NBA Finals in the past two years. Earlier in the offseason, he opted out of his $40 million player option with the Milwaukee Bucks. During the NBA free agency period, Middleton returned to Milwaukee on a three-year deal worth $102 million.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Success Relies on Khris Middleton’s Health
General manager Jon Horst is excited that Khris Middleton is back with them for the next three seasons. Middleton will have to stay healthy if the Milwaukee Bucks want to have a chance at winning another NBA Championship.
If he is not on the court consistently, then it will be a problem because Milwaukee has an older roster with little depth. They could have gone in a different direction as a franchise this offseason in who they want to surround Giannis Antetokounmpo with. General manager Jon Horst is gambling on Khris Middleton to stay healthy, and it is a huge risk.
In 2022-2023, he only appeared in 33 games because of injury. Khris Middleton averaged 15.1 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 4.9 APG, and 0.7 SPG. He also shot 43.6% from the field, 31.5% from three-point land, and 90.2% from the free-throw line.
During the postseason, Khris Middleton was in great shape and was not the reason why they lost in the first round of the NBA Playoffs against the Miami Heat. He averaged 23.8 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 6.2 APG. I that series, he shot 40.6% from three-point land. He is a tremendous No. 2 option.
However, Khris Middleton is 31 years old and will need to put up elite numbers over the next few seasons to hang another banner up in the rafters of the Fiserv Forum.
