The Milwaukee Bucks are literally the oldest team in the NBA today with an average age of 28.21. They also gave up a lot of their future assets this summer as they reconfigured their roster to bring in superstar point guard Damian Lillard.
At this point, it wouldn’t hurt if Milwaukee brought in some youth to their squad. This is where a rising stud like Trey Murphy III of the New Orleans Pelicans could come in handy.
Proposed Trade Between Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans
Max Griffith of Behind the Bucks Pass recently conjured up a fresh list of potential trade targets for the Bucks as the February deadline draws closer. The most intriguing of which is a multi-player swap with the Pelicans. It’s also the deal that will require Milwaukee to give up the most assets.
Below are the details of the proposed trade:
Milwaukee gets: Trey Murphy III, Larry Nance Jr
New Orleans gets: Bobby Portis, MarJon Beauchamp, 2024 Second-Round Pick (via Portland), 2027 Second-Round Pick
Portis is one of the most important players on the Bucks roster at the moment and it would not be easy parting ways with him. To a certain extent, the same can be said about MarJon Beauchamp being one of the most promising young prospects on the squad. However, this will be the price they will need to pay to get a guy like Trey Murphy III.
“Giving up Portis would be a big hit for the Bucks, but the lack of defense has hurt Milwaukee, and trading away Portis in this package helps Milwaukee on that side of the ball. Not only that, but Trey Murphy III can shoot and has tremendous length and athleticism,” Griffith wrote.
Now in his third year in the NBA, Murphy is averaging 14.9 points on 48.8 percent shooting, with 3.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. The 6-foot-8 wing is also knocking down 2.4 triples per game on a 39.6-percent clip.
Larry Nance Jr. is no star, but he could be a useful addition for the Bucks too. He’s an energy guy who could fill some of the void Portis will leave on the second unit.
For their part, the Pelicans get a tested veteran in Bobby Portis, who as we’ve seen this season, can get buckets in his limited time on the floor. Beauchamp is an intriguing prospect as well, and he falls in nicely with their Zion Williamson-led timeline.
The two second-rounders sweeten the deal for the Pels, but it still remains to be seen if they will be willing to part ways with Murphy at this price.
