After an early playoff exit, the Milwaukee Bucks are already lookin ahead to compete for next season. Among the moves that can be considered by the front office is trading for New York Knicks star Mitchell Robinson to shore up the team’s front court rotation.
Ever since the 2018-19 season, Brook Lopez has held the starting center job for Milwaukee. With the 2021-22 campaign as the exception, the one-time All-Star has always been a reliable choice to man the 5 spot with averages of 13.0 points, 5.2 boards, 1.2 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game for the six seasons he has been with the Bucks.

More than those numbers, though, Brook’s ability to space the floor opens up a lot of opportunities for Giannis Antetokounmpo to do the most damage inside the paint. In those six seasons, the former Brooklyn Nets star connected almost 35 percent from beyond the arc, adding another layer to the team’s offense in the process.
The thing is, Lopez is on an expiring contract when the upcoming season starts. He is slated to make $23 million for the 2024-25 campaign, the final year of the extension the big man signed in 2023. It only stands to reason for the Bucks’ front office to trade him in order to get the most out of his value before he leaves in free agency next summer.
New York Knicks’ Mitchell Robinson Projected as Risky Trade Target For Milwaukee Bucks

In order to get someone of value before Lopez potentially leaves, the Bucks will have to check out the market for a talented big man to man the team’s 5 spot. In an article written by Michael Saenz for Sir Charles In Charge, New York Knicks’ Mitchell Robinson may be someone to look out for.
“One intriguing option that could become available this summer is Mitchell Robinson. If the New York Knicks do pivot in a way in which they would rather have Isaiah Hartenstein over Robinson, this is a deal that can make some sense.
Hartenstein is heading into free agency and, with the way he’s played of late, is likely a player the Knicks will want to re-sign. However, New York may need to make additional room to accomplish that. Trading Robinson could go a long way in accomplishing that,” Saenz wrote.
Robinson has spent six seasons playing for the Knicks with averages of 8.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game. Using his 7′ frame, he can improve the team’s 19th-place defense with him in the lineup. Unfortunately, Robinson has consistently dealt with injuries over the course of his career, limiting the big man’s effectiveness on the court.

It remains to be seen whether Milwaukee will attempt to trade for Robinson or not. In any case, what he has done in New York merits some attention, especially if Lopez leaves next year.
