Milwaukee Bucks news: It’s official. The Phoenix Suns have fired their head coach for a second straight offseason. This is after it was announced on Thursday that Frank Vogel has been dismissed as the team’s head coach following the Suns’ embarrassing first-round sweep against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
This only means that Phoenix will be employing a new head coach for a third straight season and apparently, former Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer has immediately emerged as a strong candidate for the opening.
Milwaukee Bucks News: Mike Budenholzer Linked to Suns Head Coaching Gig
NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski was one of the first to announce the Vogel firing on Thursday, which quite frankly, did not come as a huge shock. In his report, Woj also indicated that Budenholzer is expected to be a “prominent part” of the organization’s search for their head coach:

It is worth noting that the Suns ousted Vogel just one season into his post despite the fact that he signed a five-year, $31 million deal with the team last year. It goes without saying that whoever lands this job will immediately be on a hot seat amid the pressure and championship expectations the role entails.
Budenholzer, who won the title with the Bucks in 2021, definitely has the cache to take on this high-profile job. The former two-time NBA Coach of the Year has taken a one-year hiatus since being fired by Milwaukee last summer, and it now appears that he will be back in the league as a head coach in 2024-25 — be it with Phoenix or otherwise.
