Damian Lillard’s Achilles injury was one of the crucial factors that led to the Milwaukee Bucks’ first round elimination at the hands of the Indiana Pacers. But just recently, the All-Star guard dropped a pivotal update on how he’s doing.
During the previous offseason, the Bucks went ahead and acquired Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers in a three-team deal with the Phoenix Suns. In exchange, the front office sent out a package headlined by Jrue Holiday to give two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo a more talented shot creator in the backcourt.
Even with his initial plan of going to the Miami Heat rebuffed, Lillard still found a way to play at an elite level for Milwaukee. Over the course of 73 regular season games, Dame averaged 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 7.0 assists while playing 35.3 minutes per contest.
As compared to his 11-year run in Portland, Lillard’s stint so far in Milwaukee has been marred by an abrupt coaching change and injuries at key moments of the season. Ultimately, his injured Achilles contributed to the Bucks’ early elimination in the first round by Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Drops Update on Injury He Sustained During NBA Playoffs
Although the upcoming season may be months away, Lillard is taking his time to get back to shape. In an article written by Drake Bentley for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the All-Star guard gave an update about his injury.
“I’m doing my PT stuff just trying to get it … to full strength, start moving on it before I get back on the court so I can get right,” Lillard said
While learning that he’s recovering well right now, it may be a hard time for Lillard seeing someone younger than him win their first ring. As it stands, all remaining teams in the playoffs are headlined by a young star who may become first-time champions in a couple of weeks.
Even if that’s the case, Lillard may use this as motivation to come back stronger than ever. If that happens, expect him and Antetokounmpo to go berserk once the new season starts.
