Bobby Portis is officially a finalist for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award, and sure enough, Milwaukee Bucks fans couldn’t be any happier.
Portis didn’t get much love for the award throughout the season, but some late campaigning appears to have convinced some voters to put his name in their ballots.

On Sunday, amid the start of the NBA Playoffs, the NBA released its award finalists for various categories. Portis is the only Bucks player to make it, with Giannis Antetokounmpo failing to reach the Top 3 in the NBA MVP voting.
Portis is one of the three finalists for the Sixth Man of the Year award, with Malik Monk of the Sacramento Kings and Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves headlining the top vote-getters for the honor.
Prior to the announcement, Portis wasn’t even in the Top 3 for the award in betting odds, with Los Angeles Clippers wing Norman Powell ahead of him, per Covers.
Unfortunately for Portis, however, he isn’t expected to win the honor. Many fans and experts have had Monk as the heavy favorite to take home the accolade, with Reid closing in but still second.
Still, it will be intriguing to see where Portis ends up in the voting after the consistent and massive season he had. While he was not often talked about in the Sixth Man conversations, Portis has the numbers to back up his claim for the award.
Portis averaged 13.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists this 2023-24 season, all while shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from deep. He also played in all 82 games for the Bucks.
The Bucks big man is first in double-doubles off the bench this 2023-24 with 16. He also had the most total rebounds off the bench with 573, as well as second in points off the bench with 1,052. Furthermore, he is in the Top 30 field goal and 3-point field goal percentage among players eligible for the award.
If that doesn’t warrant Sixth Man of the Year candidate, then it the award would have been questionable.
Milwaukee Bucks Fans React To Bobby Portis Honor
As mentioned, Milwaukee Bucks are ecstatic to see Bobby Portis get his much-deserved respect from voters. Despite the fact that it will be hard for him to win, the Milwaukee faithful made sure to shower him with praise.
“Bobby Portis Jr is the 6th man in the NBA!!! What a great regular season, and now going into the postseason. No question he is a force of nature!!!” a fan wrote. Another one said, “Should’ve won last year but this year he definitely should win it.”
“Congrats Bobby! Definitely deserved,” a commenter shared. A fourth supporter added, “Would be VERY well earned.”
Of course nothing is set in stone yet and there’s still a possibility that Portis wins the award. But regardless of the results, it’s clear that Portis has already won the hearts of the fan base–with silverware or not.
