The Brooklyn Nets opted to ride the hot hand against the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. Third-year guard Cam Thomas was on fire all night long, and true enough, the Nets trusted him to take the last shot deep in the final minute with the Bucks clinging on to a three-point lead.
Giannis Antetokounmpo came up big for Milwaukee on that key play, blocking Thomas’ attempt at the basket. However, even if the end result did not go in his or his team’s favor, there’s no denying that the 22-year-old gained a lot more fans after his 45-point explosion on Monday night.
Cam Thomas Reacts to Last Shot Vs. Milwaukee Bucks
Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaugh confirmed after the game that the final play was indeed drawn up for Thomas:
“The last shot was for him,” Vaughn said about Thomas in crunch time, via Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post. “He’ll probably see another one.”
Thomas just couldn’t make the shot — and the Bucks have Giannis to thank for that as well. Nevertheless, the young Nets stud could not help but rave about that memorable moment in his post-game interview:
“Growing up, you want to take the last shots in the NBA. Everybody wants to,” Thomas said. “Everybody dreams of it, so I’m just glad that our players and obviously our coaches have the trust in me to take that shot.”
Even Nets star Mikal Bridges had to heap praise on his teammate. Bridges himself has seen his usage rate drop amid Thomas’ scorching start to the new season, but it is clear that the former does not mind at all:
“That’s who Cam is man, a certified bucket. He’s honestly our best scorer,” Bridges stated.

Bucks fans should be happy that their team’s defense held up against Thomas and the Nets. On another night, it could have very easily been a much different narrative for these two teams.
