The Brooklyn Nets gave the Milwaukee Bucks a run for their money on Monday night. It was anything but an easy win for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. as they contended with Brooklyn’s high-octane backcourt.
In the end, the Bucks prevailed, 129-125. This was after they were able to hold off Cam Thomas and Mikal Bridges who combined for a whopping 76 points on the evening.
Cam Thomas, Mikal Bridges Torch Milwaukee Bucks
Cam Thomas has been on an absolute hot streak for the Nets to start the season. The third-year shooting guard kept his foot on the gas against the Bucks, going off on a season-high 45 points on 17-of-33 shots. The 22-year-old drained six triples, while also adding four boards, three assists, a steal, and just one turnover in 41 minutes of play.
Mikal Bridges wasn’t bad either, scoring 31 points on 12-of-21 shooting, with five rebounds and four assists. Summer recruit Lonnie Walker IV also made his presence felt with 19 points in 23 minutes off the bench with three triples.
Adrian Griffin Comments on Offensive Barrage
After the game, a victorious Adrian Griffin just had to commend Brooklyn’s high-power backcourt. The Bucks shot-caller knew that the Nets almost had them, and it was thanks in large part to their guards.
“It’s a tough team to guard,” Griffin said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “All their guards are fast, explosive, and they’re three-point threats as well. It presented some matchup difficulties for us just for the size and quickness. These type of games build character and I thought our guys stepped up big time.”
As Griffin said, however, Monday’s win was a test of character for his team. Any other side would have folded against an offensive explosion against not one, but two high-scoring guards. The Bucks, however, stood firm to secure their first road win of the new season.
