A lot will be riding on Tuesday’s showdown between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Miami Heat. Apart from the fact that the Heat will be looking to avenge their early-season loss to the Bucks, Miami also plans on blemishing Milwaukee’s undefeated record in the NBA In-Season Tournament.
The Bucks are currently 3-0 in the inaugural tournament and a win will secure the top spot for East Group B for them. Obviously, the Heat don’t want that to happen.
Bam Adebayo Gets Real on In-Season Tournament Vs. Milwaukee Bucks
Speaking to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s highly-anticipated clash, Miami star big man Bam Adebayo shared his brutally honest thoughts on the format of the in-season tournament. According to the two-time All-Star, he isn’t in agreement with how the competition incorporates point differentials during games:
“That’s the thing a lot of guys I’ve been seeing disagree with because if you’re up 15 and you’re trying to get a point differential with 40 seconds, it takes the integrity from the game,” Adebayo said, via Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.
Apparently, Adebayo is not alone in this stance. The Heat big man did not drop any names, but he says that “a lot of guys” agree with this same notion about the point differential aspect changing the whole dynamics of the game.
Unlike in the regular season wherein point differentials (basically, it’s the accumulated point total you beat your opponents by, or vice versa) do not count, this factor weighs heavily in the in-season tournament as it will determine a team’s ranking should there be a tie in the standings.
Adebayo clearly doesn’t like it, though.
