Milwaukee Bucks second-year forward MarJon Beauchamp is expected to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of Jae Crowder’s recent injury. With the veteran swingman expected to be out for at least two months due to a groin injury, Beauchamp is going to be given a bigger role in the rotation — one that the 23-year-old is more than willing to take advantage of.
Milwaukee Bucks’ MarJon Beauchamp ‘Hurt’ by Jae Crowder Injury
In spite of the golden opportunity he has in his hands at the moment, Beauchamp could not help but feel bad for his teammate. In a previous interview, the former Yakima Valley Community College standout revealed that Crowder is his biggest mentor on the team. This is exactly why Crowder’s injury stings for his young protege:
“It hurts, man,” Beauchamp said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “Jae was playing so well for us. I texted him today and just tried to cheer him up and stuff because I know he wanted this bad. He’d been working hard. He looked like the Jae Crowder that we know. So it’s just tough. But he’s real good with God and I’m sure he’s going to be good, man. And, you know, it just opens up opportunities for me and [Andre Jackson Jr.] and we just gotta take the opportunity.”
With Crowder out for the first time on Monday against the Chicago Bulls, Beauchamp responded with eight points, two triples, five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block in 20 minutes off the bench. It wasn’t exactly his best performance of the season, but it was very encouraging, to say the least.
As Beauchamp noted, another player who’s going to be expected to play a bigger role sans Crowder is rookie Andre Jackson Jr. You could say that there could be a bit of competition between Beauchamp and Jackson moving forward, but at the end of the day, this should only push both youngsters to be better.
