The Milwaukee Bucks clinched the top seed in their NBA In-Season Tournament group on Tuesday night with their 131-124 victory over the Miami Heat. It was a crucial win for the Bucks as they secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the league’s inaugural tournament.
Milwaukee will now host the New York Knicks at the Fiserv Forum on December 5 in a knockout game with a spot in the semifinals at stake.
Khris Middleton Looking Forward to Milwaukee Bucks Winning Inaugural Tournament
At this point, it’s safe to say that the Bucks are serious about going all the way to be the first-ever in-season tournament champions. Just ask Khris Middleton.
“It would be pretty cool to be part of history,” he said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “You always want to be the first to win something. So, it would definitely be cool to win the first In-Season Tournament. We still got some work to do, but we’re excited about it, about the opportunity.”
You have to give credit to Commissioner Adam Silver and the rest of the league front office for this unprecedented initiative, as well as their success in drumming up as much interest in the tournament as possible. Teams and players alike have clearly bought into the idea of winning the tournament and of course, claiming the cash prize at the end of the rainbow.
Should the Bucks successfully get through the Knicks, they will set themselves up for a trip to Las Vegas for a semifinal bout against either the Boston Celtics or the Indiana Pacers.
The four teams competing in the West are the Los Angeles Lakers, the Phoenix Suns, the Sacramento Kings, and the New Orleans Pelicans.
