While Kareem Abdul-Jabbar may be remembered more for his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, there’s no denying that he is still considered a legend by Milwaukee Bucks fans everywhere. This is exactly why Milwaukee supporters — much like the rest of the basketball world — were shocked to hear the news about the Hall of Famer’s freak accident during a recent concert in LA.
Milwaukee Bucks Icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Injures Hip
According to reports, Kareem suffered an accidental fall during a concert on Friday night. The 76-year-old’s long-time business partner, Deborah Morales, released an official statement via Kareem’s official Twitter account to confirm the sad news:
“Last night while attending a concert , Kareem had an accidental fall and broke his hip. He will have surgery today. We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now,“ read the statement.
It’s a good thing Kareem did not hit his head during the fall because that could have been a far worse injury. Nevertheless, the fact that he was hospitalized immediately after the incident and him needing surgery both point to the notion that this is a serious matter — especially for a 76-year-old man.
Our prayers go out to Kareem and his road to recovery.
