The future of Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has been written, talked about, and even been a debate topic on sports talk shows for the past two years. But what about the future of his teammate, Jrue Holiday? Holiday is four years older than the Bucks’ superstar, and he’s said in the past that he won’t sign another contract with the Bucks or any other team.
Holiday signed a four-year $134 million extension last September but said that’s the final contract he would sign with the Bucks.
The positive news of that development is that Holiday wants to end his career with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Milwaukee Bucks 2X All-Star Jrue Holiday wants to end his career with the team.
Loyalty is a big part of Jrue Holiday’s DNA. Before he found success in Milwaukee, he was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers and spent four seasons there before being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans after Philadelphia hired new General Manager Sam Hinkie, who promptly traded all of Philly’s good players to pick up lottery picks in a term that was coined “The Process.”
Holiday developed into one of the best two-way players with the Pelicans and earned his status as an underrated player. New Orleans still had Anthony Davis, and for that reason, Holiday was overshadowed, but make no mistake, he was one of the best players on a mediocre team.
After being traded to Milwaukee, Holiday finally got to go to a winning culture, and his presence helped the team win a championship for the first time in 50 years.
But after two seasons of coming up short, the pressure is on for Milwaukee to win another championship, and the future of the Big 3 could be in doubt. On Monday, Holiday spoke to Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Holiday set aside those worries for Bucks’ fans as he hopes to remain in Milwaukee long-term.
“Would love to,” Holiday said. “Before I even won here, I think I said I’m a Buck for life, and I mean that like deep in my heart. I don’t want to play for any other team. I think we have a chance to continue to do great things as the Bucks team and organization, so I want to be in Milwaukee.”
It’s no surprise that Jrue Holiday wants to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks in the future. This has been the most formidable team he has played for, and Milwaukee gives him the best chance to win.
Not only has he found success in Milwaukee, but other players are giving him his flowers as the best on-ball defender in the NBA.
Before coming to Milwaukee, Jrue Holiday’s name was never mentioned because he wasn’t a star and was on a mediocre team. In Milwaukee, Holiday has been a vital part of Milwaukee’s success, and hopefully, he stays in Milwaukee long-term.
Holiday’s contract runs through the 2025-26 season, and he stated he has no plans to retire in the next couple of years. Milwaukee has been rumored as a trade destination for Portland Trail Blazers All-Star Guard Damian Lillard. It likely won’t happen; we can put those rumors to bed and prepare for another season with Jrue Holiday as the starting point guard for the Milwaukee Bucks.
