Milwaukee Bucks news: Paul Pierce was in the building for the Boston Celtics on Wednesday as newly-acquired combo guard Jrue Holiday practiced with his new teammates for the first time since his recent blockbuster trade. The Hall of Famer brought about some real excitement in the air for everyone present, including team owner Wyc Grousbeck.
Former Milwaukee Bucks Star Jrue Holiday Draws Legendary Praise From Wyc Grousbeck
Speaking after Wednesday’s practice session, Grousbeck shared his thoughts on his team’s recent acquisition of Holiday. The former Bucks star is the second former All-Star Boston has brought in this summer following their earlier addition of Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards.
According to Grousbeck, all this has prompted a bit of nostalgia from his end:
“It was an emotional reaction but it was an authentic reaction,” Grousbeck said at Holiday’s introductory presser, via Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston. “It’s how I really felt. I remember in 2008 when that team got put together, that feeling when Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen walked in for the practice and joined everyone else, and all of a sudden, things just felt different.”
Neither Holiday nor Porzingis are comparable to Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett in terms of their style of play, but as Grousbeck stated, the situation Boston finds itself in right now is eerily similar to what they did some 15 years ago.
Massive Expectations for Celtics
The Celtics won a championship in Garnett and Allen’s first season with the team. Grousbeck’s lofty comparison definitely takes this fact into account. While he may have not said it directly, the millionaire entrepreneur is certainly eyeing a title following their potentially landscape-shifting moves in the offseason:
“Paul Pierce was here today trying to bring some of that magic, and he brought a lot of joy and energy to it. I just want to say there was a real feeling of optimism,” Grousbeck said.
