The arrival of NBA champion head coach Doc Rivers hasn’t exactly panned out for the Milwaukee Bucks just yet. They lost their second straight game on Wednesday against a struggling Portland Trail Blazers side, which now has Rivers sitting on a 0-2 record.
At the end of the day, Coach Doc can only do so much. Milwaukee’s success will still all boil down to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard getting on the same page. They’re getting there. But they still have quite a ways to go before they become the most feared duo in the league.
Kendrick Perkins Drops Truth Bomb on Milwaukee Bucks
ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins has come out with his latest hot take on the Bucks. This time around, the former NBA big man took aim at Milwaukee talisman Giannis Antetokounmpo (again). According to Big Perk, Giannis has to be the bigger man here by taking a step back to let Damian Lillard do his thing:
“We saw Kevin Garnett take a backseat to Paul Pierce on the offensive end. We saw Dwyane Wade sacrifice for LeBron James only to complete the mission. So when I look at Giannis Antetokounmpo, he has to be the guy to sacrifice,” Perkins said (h/t Jay Mamesh Lokegaonkar of The Sports Rush).
The examples Perkins used are pretty compelling — and to a certain extent, he’s right. Kevin Garnett did concede the alpha role to Paul Pierce (at least on offense) in order for the Boston Celtics to win that title (Perkins was part of that team, by the way). The same can be said about Dwyane Wade letting LeBron James take over when the latter took his talents to South Beach.
Giannis did say that the Bucks were going to be Lillard’s team when he arrived, but it hasn’t really looked that way yet. Perhaps Big Perk has a point here?
