Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo spoke to reporters on media day about Jrue Holiday for the first time since trading him away for Damian Lillard. It was media day on Monday for the Milwaukee Bucks as they begin to prepare for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.
There will be championship expectations for this basketball team this season. This is why they made the Lillard trade. Antetokounmpo on Monday told the media about Holiday after the trade to the Portland Trail Blazers:
“We’re definitely gonna miss him…He’s always going to be a champion forever. He’s always going to be my friend, the best person I’ve ever met.”
Jrue Holiday was acquired via trade by Milwaukee from the New Orleans Pelicans before the 2020-2021 season. He was with the team for three seasons. Holiday, a season ago, averaged 19.3 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 7.4 APG in 67 games played. He is 33 years old and is looking to win another NBA Championship himself.
Milwaukee Bucks Won a Lot With the Core of Khris Middleton, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jrue Holiday, but Holiday is on the Boston Celtics Now
The Bucks, over the past three seasons, won an NBA title with this core, and they also won a bunch of games when all three were healthy at the same time. Giannis Antetokounmpo played a huge role in getting Jrue Holiday to Milwaukee in the first place. They were really close to one another.
Holiday will now be competing against him to win another NBA title. Jrue Holiday was traded to the Boston Celtics from the Portland Trail Blazers for draft picks, former Bucks player Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams II. Getting rid of Williams was a big loss for the Celtics, but getting Holiday as the point guard over Brogdon and Derrick White was a huge win for Boston however.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics face each other this season. It is, for sure, a potential Eastern Conference Finals Preview. Jrue Holiday will be missed in a Bucks uniform because of his defensive presence, but Giannis Antetokounmpo is the best player on this basketball team, and they will be fine.
