Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo will never forget Wednesday night’s incredible performance. After all, it’s not every day that you score a career-best 64 points. One could even argue that this was the best we’ve seen from the former back-to-back MVP throughout what has been a decorated NBA career.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Shares Mindset During Career Night
Antetokounmpo actually marked a major scoring milestone in the first quarter of Wednesday’s win over their Central Division rivals. Giannis entered the Top 100 of the all-time scoring list with his seventh point of the evening. As it turns out, he was planning to score much more than just even points on the evening.
According to the seven-time All-Star, however, his monstrous scoring effort came organically. He did not set out to drop a 60-piece over the Pacers but ultimately, that’s exactly what went down.
“I don’t think there was a specific moment that I thought that I’d score 60. I’m just trying to play the game,” Antetokounmpo said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “There was a lot of moments that I was able to take advantage of the defense and the way they were guarding me and make plays for myself and my teammates. I was able to go to the free throw line and knock a few free throws in. That’s pretty much it. I just tried to take a play at a time.”
Apart from going 20-of-28 from the field, Giannis also scored 24 of his points from the charity stripe. I guess you could say that one of the lowlights of his evening was the fact that he also missed eight out of his 32 attempts from the line. Then again, that would be nitpicking.
A First for Giannis
Antetokounmpo then went on to admit that there was a certain point in the game that he decided to just go for it. He was probably already up to 50 points or something at that point (his previous career-high was 55 points) when he said that he might as well just go for broke.
“I’ve never in that position before,” Antetokounmpo said. “And I was like, OK, great, I’ll go try to get it. And I was fortunate enough to be in a position to get it. It’s a great feeling but at the end of the day its living in the past. It’s done now. It’s done. Hopefully I’m able to create more moments like that in the future and keep on my making my team great.”
Apart from the fact that only a select few could drop 60 points in an NBA game, what makes Giannis so speical is how he has no intention of basking in his glory. He will celebrate this incredible milestone but as he said, he fully plans on moving on from this as quickly as possible.
