Milwaukee Bucks fans finally got a taste of an utterly dominant Giannis Anteotkounmpo on Monday night. The former back-to-back MVP led the charge for Milwaukee as they took down the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center, 129-125.
It has been an up-and-down start for the Bucks early on in the season so it was great to finally see a vintage performance from their talisman.
Giannis Antetokounmpo Sounds Off on Milwaukee Bucks’ Win
Antetokounmpo dropped a season-high 36 points against the Nets on 15-of-27 shooting. He also logged 12 rebounds, three assists, a steal, and two blocks in 35 minutes of action. He also made his mark on the defensive end, particularly late in the game when he served as the team’s rim protector in what turned out to be a tightly-contested matchup.
Milwaukee supporters have been craving a performance like this from their superstar and Giannis gifted them with an absolute gem on Monday night.
“As a team we just try to play hard,” Antetokounmpo said in his post-game interview. “Try to guard. We know that they’re a team that play a lot of 1-on-1. They want to get to it. They have a lot of scorers and shoot a lot of threes. We wanted to guard the three-point line.
“Individually, I just wanted to have fun. I just wanted to enjoy the game, be in the moment, and just be aggressive.”
Giannis did look like he was having fun on the court, and it translated to his best performance of the season. The fans will obviously want more of the same from the team’s cornerstone superstar moving forward, starting with Wednesday’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons.
