After an utterly dominant performance against the Washington Wizards, most folks expected Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo to have another majestic outing on Wednesday against the Boston Celtics.
The former Defensive Player of the Year wasn’t awful, but he failed to reach the same heights he did in their previous game. More importantly, he wasn’t able to help the Bucks overcome a powerhouse Celtics side, who eventually scrapped out a 119-116 win at the TD Garden.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Dealing With an Illness
As it turns out, Giannis wasn’t feeling too good during Wednesday’s loss. Speaking to reporters after the game, the Bucks talisman revealed that he was actually dealing with an illness:
“To be honest, I had a cold,” Giannis said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “I wasn’t able to process the game as well as usual.
“So when I watch the tape, I’ll figure out what they did and how I can be able to kind of beat their defense and be effective and be more effective, more efficient offensively.”
This isn’t exactly Giannis making excuses, but he does try to explain why he wasn’t very effective against Boston. Antetokounmpo finished with 21 points on 7-of-20 shooting, 13 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and three turnovers.
It’s also worth noting that Giannis has now popped up on the injury report for Milwaukee’s next game. Antetokounmpo, however, is listed as probable to play with a non-COVID illness, so barring any unforeseen setbacks, he should be good to go on Friday night against the Washington Wizards.
