The Milwaukee Bucks’ decision to acquire Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers revolved around the need to surround Giannis Antetokounmpo with more offense. Almost two months into 2024, and that doesn’t seem to be the case with these two All-Stars from downtown.
Of the two, Lillard is seen as the better shot-creator from all three levels of the court. He averages 37 percent from three, 49 percent from inside the arc, and 89 percent from the free throw line while posting 25.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game throughout his entire NBA career.
Although Antetokounmpo isn’t known as a threat from beyond the perimeter, his efficiency inside it elevates the Bucks’ offense. Setting aside the fact that he only shoots 28 percent from three throughout his career, the Greek Freak still averages 23.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per contest.
While those numbers look great from an overall perspective, there’s one stat that isn’t looking good for one of these stars. And if it’s not fixed soon, it can spell trouble for the Bucks.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard’s Concerning Stat For the Milwaukee Bucks
As seen in a post by Bucks Muse on X, Lillard has been garbage from the three-point line this year. In fact, he’s worse than Antetokounmpo in that regard.
“3-point percentages in 2024 :
Giannis Antetokounmpo: 30.2%
Damian Lillard: 29.6% Thoughts?” Bucks Muse posted.
This drop in three-point efficiency coincides with the issue of Adrian Griffin’s firing, the hiring of Doc Rivers, the subsequent losing streak under him, and Lillard’s ankle injury that caused him to miss several games.
If Lillard continues to slump in this area, the spacing around Antetokounmpo won’t be enough for the two-time MVP to dominate opposing squads. As a result, the Bucks may have a harder time getting some wins before the regular season ends.
It remains to be seen whether Lillard can regain his touch in the coming months. If he doesn’t, the Bucks will certainly be in trouble.
