It’s a known fact that Adrian Griffin’s success with the Milwaukee Bucks will only go as far as where Giannis Antetokounmpo takes him.
Well, that all came to an end on Tuesday after it was confirmed that Griffin had been relieved from his post as head coach 43 games into the season.
REPORT: Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Lost Faith in Adrian Griffin
According to reports, Giannis “chose to champion Griffin” this past summer when the Bucks were searching for their new head coach. Antetokounmpo wasn’t overjoyed by the fact that the team had just fired Mike Budenholzer, but at the same time, the former back-to-back MVP wanted some new blood running the show for the Bucks.
It’s not as if Giannis did not give Griffin a fair shot. Throughout the season, the Bucks talisman publicly showed his unwavering support to his coach. As it turns out, however, other things were happening behind closed doors.
According to NBA insider Chris Mannix of SI, Antetokounmpo had already lost faith in Griffin:
“There have been steady rumblings for weeks in NBA circles that several Bucks veterans, including Giannis, had lost faith in Griffin. What appeared to be smart hire last spring just never worked out,” Mannix wrote.
As soon as Giannis lost his trust in Griffin, it was only a matter of time before the Bucks were going to kick him out.
Whether the front office admits it or not, Antetokounmpo will always have the final say. However, the fact that the other players on the team had also lost faith in Griffin perhaps made the decision to let him go even easier.
Mannix did not indicate exactly when Giannis and the rest of the Bucks locker room turned on Griffin, but the fact of the matter is that he’s now out of the picture.
