Doc Rivers just suffered his fourth loss in five games in charge of the Milwaukee Bucks. This is after the Bucks fell short against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night, 114-106.
It has been far from an ideal start for the one-time NBA champion coach, but at this point, Rivers has remained optimistic as he highlights the silver lining of what has been a brutal stretch for Milwaukee.
Doc Rivers Sees Bright Side in Milwaukee Bucks’ Loss Vs. Suns
Defense has been a major concern for the Bucks all season long, and it’s one of the reasons why they decided to part ways with Adrian Griffin. This is also one of the most significant issues Rivers is expected to fix now that he’s taken over.
According to Coach Doc, he liked what he saw from his team on the defensive end against a powerhouse Suns side:
“The confidence is growing — you can see it,” Rivers said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Made a couple mistakes, which is fine, but you can see the confidence, you can see the talking. At halftime they were talking about the little run and jumps we were going to in the second half. The defensive confidence is absolutely growing. That’s a big thing for this team. If they can get that confidence, that takes us to a different level.”
The undermanned Bucks put up a formidable effort against a Suns squad that boasted the fire power of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. In the end, however, Milwaukee came up short as Phoenix secured the home win.
‘You Can See the Talking’
Rivers noted before the game that his team’s lack of communication has been an issue on the defensive end. The tenured shot-caller was able to determine that quitness of his players, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, is one of the major reasons behind their problems.
Coach Doc said that this is an issue he wants to “fix” immediately, and it’s good to hear him commend his players for “talking” throughout Tuesday’s loss. Ultimately, the Bucks were still unable to get the win, but it does sound like they’re taking the necessary steps in the right direction.
