The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to make changes to their roster ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline. You can be sure that new head coach Doc Rivers will also have a significant say in whatever move the Bucks make in the next 24 hours.
At the same time, the veteran shot-caller has confessed that for him, this is one of the worst parts of the season. In fact, Rivers admitted that he’s dreading the deadline.
Milwaukee Bucks Coach Doc Rivers Gets Real on Trade Deadline
Speaking in a recent interview, Rivers acknowledged the difficulties that are brought about by the trade deadline not only on the teams but more importantly, on the players. Coach Doc has been around long enough to have experienced all sorts of shocking developments during this critical part of the season. Nevertheless, this doesn’t make it any easier for him:
“Obviously with the deadline coming up, I hate the deadline as a coach because some players are nervous and some players aren’t,” he said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “And you gotta try to figure out, because everyone — it’s like when you come in a huddle and you ask a player which way you wanna go, 100% are going to say I can go either way. And we all know in this room half of them can’t go but one way, left or right, but they’re always going to say either way. It’s the same thing with that. I don’t know the guys, and so I’m trying to figure out who is it affecting? And, they all say ‘I’m good,’ but you know that’s not true.
“It’s a tough stretch. The whole league goes through it. I’m very happy the day after, ’cause now you know who you have.”
Based on Rivers’ comments here, it does feel like the Bucks are cooking up something big. It’s as if Coach Doc is already preparing himself (and the squad?) for inevitably having to bid farewell to one or two players on the roster.
Bobby Portis and MarJon Beauchamp are the two names that have prominently popped up in trade rumors, so perhaps these two are the players Rivers was referring to in his heartfelt comments above.
