J.J. Redick made it abundantly clear that he thought the Milwaukee Bucks’ decision to fire Adrian Griffin at the midway point of the season was pretty crazy. In fact, the exact words the former Milwaukee sharpshooter used was that this whole situation was “f**king insane.”
Redick also has a few things to say about the team’s decision to bring in Doc Rivers as Griffin’s successor, and unfortunately, Bucks fans might not enjoy what he has to say.
J.J. Redick Reacts to Milwaukee Bucks Hiring Doc Rivers
Speaking on a recent episode of his own podcast, The Old Man & the Three, Redick explained why he believes Rivers fits the bill for Milwaukee right now:
“That’s why they’re bringing Doc Rivers in. He did win a championship in 2008,” Redick said. “… When you look at the landscape of who’s available, who’s had head coaching experience. (The Bucks) just brought in a rookie coach. It clearly wasn’t working out. The players clearly weren’t responding to Adrian Griffin in a positive way. They’re not going to then go hire an assistant coach. They’re not going to promote. This is a team that wants to win now. They want a proven coach.”
In this respect, you can’t really argue that Rivers does not fit the profile of who the Bucks want to take over their team. Rivers is the exact opposite of Griffin in terms of coaching experience and at this point, the front office wants someone who has been there and done it.
Doc Rivers is NOT the Man
Be that as it may, Redick still has his doubts about Rivers. You have to note that Redick also played under Rivers for multiple years with the Los Angeles Clippers, so you could say that he’s a bit of an authority in this matter.
“Doc Rivers to the Milwaukee Bucks makes a lot of sense,” he continued. “He makes a lot of sense for sure — to a certain faction of people. To another faction of people, we could feel a certain way about him as a coach, about him since 2008 and what he’s done. He’s certainly won a lot of games, a lot of regular season games.
“I don’t know, I don’t think Doc Rivers is the coach that would get this team to a championship. I don’t think that. … Maybe they get there. I don’t know. It’s just f**king crazy.”
“This is f*cking insane what’s happening… Third winniest coach [Adrian Griffin] ever in terms of win percentage to be fired midseason in NBA history… Ultimately, that's why they are bringing Doc Rivers in."

Doc Rivers would love to prove his former player wrong here.
