Damian Lillard is not supposed to be a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. A few months back, the Miami Heat was supposed to be the team he joined after he demanded a trade away from the Portland Trail Blazers.
That never came to fruition, though, and this is exactly why there’s a palpable buzz around Milwaukee’s Monday night matchup against the Miami Heat — especially surrounding the Dame narrative.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Speaks Out on Miami Heat Matchup

Lillard was asked to share his thoughts on Monday’s upcoming matchup against the team he should have joined. The 33-year-old acknowledged his initial desire to join the Heat but at the same time, he was quick to shut down any and all concerns regarding his loyalty to his current team, the Bucks:
“I think it’s just that,” Lillard said about the business getting in the way of his desire to join the Heat. “I mean, I’ve never played on their team. I mentioned it that that was the destination for when I asked to be traded. But I was traded here. I’m excited to be here. I’m happy to be here. I fit in great here.
“For me, personally, that was the end of it. I never thought about it again after that. So I’m not going in there tomorrow like, ‘This the team I was supposed to be playing for,’ or anything like that. I know Jimmy, I know Bam. We cool. But I play for the Bucks. I’m not going into it like, ‘That’s my former team or we was tied in.’ Nothing like that. It’s another game.”

As Lillard made clear in his statement, that’s all water under the bridge now. He’s now a member of the Bucks and he could not be happier. The moment his move to Milwaukee was made official, he completely forgot about the Heat.
Either way, you can be sure that Bucks fans are looking forward to Dame showing Miami just what they’re missing come Monday night.
