Milwaukee Bucks news: All the buzz surrounding Damian Lillard’s return to Portland almost makes it easy to overlook the fact that there’s still a game to be played. The hype is totally warranted, though, as Wednesday marks the first time Lillard returns to his former home floor, only this time, as a member of the opposing team.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Looks Back on Blazers Trade
There is no better time for Lillard to reflect on his departure from Portland now that he has returned. After all, he has pretty much been left with no other choice amid all the narratives surrounding his comeback.
It doesn’t seem like Dame minds, though. In fact, he’s been more than willing to discuss the events surrounding his blockbuster trade — including the difficulties of having to deal with all the off-court drama:
“The surrounding things are just what made it special,” he said, via Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian. “The relationships off the court. My family being there. To me, that’s the hardest thing to replace. The hardest thing to let go of.”
Dame had to leave his kids with his estranged wife, Kayla, in Portland. He also could not uproot the rest of his family and demand that they move with him to Milwaukee. As he said, Lillard pretty much left all of his loved ones behind when he agreed to join the Bucks.
It’s not just family that Lillard had to say goodbye to. He also had to bid farewell to the wonderful people he got to work with during his time with the Blazers organization, which obviously, was anything but an easy task.
“Obviously, the basketball part was great,” Lillard said. “The people I worked with every day.
“Friends on the team, staff, me and Chauncey (Billups) are super tight. The organization as a whole.”
Lillard will now get a chance to rekindle some old flames on the court on Wednesday night. You can be sure, however, that all the pleasantries will be set aside as soon as the game tips off.
