It’s going to be an emotional evening for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard on Wednesday as he returns to his former stomping ground for the first time since his blockbuster trade move. The Portland Trail Blazers host the Bucks on Wednesday night, which is without a doubt going to be a tear-jerking moment for more than a few fans in the building.
One man who won’t be shedding a tear, however, is Lillard himself.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Looking Forward to Emotional Return
Lillard acknowledged that it would be an emotional moment when he is introduced as part of the opposing team prior to the game. However, he expects to keep his eyes dry throughout the evening:
“I think it will be emotional because I care,” Lillard said, via Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian. “I loved playing in Portland. I loved living there and still live there. I’m not like a big crier. I don’t think I’ll be crying, and all of that. But I care. Everything I ever said about my time in Portland playing there, I meant that s—. So, yeah, it will be.”
Dame knows that the Portland home crowd is going to give him a warm welcome. Several years ago, the Blazers traded his former backcourt partner-in-crime, CJ McCollum. When McCollum returned to Portland for the first time, the fans gave him a memorable reception.
“I knew it would be crazy because I know they appreciate us, and they love us, but as crazy as I thought they would react to CJ, I didn’t think it would be like that,” Lillard said. “It was cray-zy!”
If the fans had that type of reception for McCollum then you can only imagine how they’ll welcome their former cornerstone superstar back on Wednesday night.
“I don’t see why it wouldn’t be anything other than positive,” Lillard said.
