Damian Lillard put on a show for the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night as he led his team to a 132-119 victory against the San Antonio Spurs at the Fiserv Forum. Dame exploded for a season-high 40 points on 14-of-22 shooting against a Spurs side that simply had no answer for the seven-time All-Star’s offensive genius.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Adrian Griffin Comments on Damian Lillard’s Elite Skillset
Over his last three games, Dame has averaged 37.3 points on 57.1 percent shooting, 4.0 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 2.0 steals. He’s also knocking down a mind-blowing 6.0 triples per game on an insane 52.9-percent clip.
At this point, it’s safe to say that Lillard is on one of his trademark hot streaks.
Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin has nothing but high praise for his superstar point guard. After watching Lillard put on a masterclass against the Spurs, Coach Griff just had to show some love for Dame:
“Obviously he can shoot the ball, he can stretch the floor, he just puts a lot of pressure on your defense,” Girffin stated, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “If you bring your bigs up he can drive around them, he’s strong enough and physical enough to finish at the rim. He just has no weaknesses on the offensive end. He has the midrange. He can shoot it from deep.
“Depending on your coverages, if you put two on the ball then he’s a willing passer. Just through that he can stretch the floor and shoot ‘em deep, you gotta adjust. Then he has the quickness and the physicality to kind of turn the corner. He just puts a lot of pressure on the defense. I’ve tried many times in the past where I’ve had to scout Portland and you just gotta run bodies at him. That’s just the only way.
“You can’t guard him one-on-one. You can’t really guard him two-on-two in pick-and-rolls. You gotta just keep sending two, three bodies at him at all times.”
It sounds to me like even Griffin himself hasn’t figured out how to competently defend Damian Lillard. The good news for the first-year coach is that he no longer has to concern himself with this head-scratching problem.
It’s the rest of the NBA who will need to deal with Dame on a night to night basis.
