The Milwaukee Bucks are among the best teams in the Eastern Conference even if their performance during the previous postseason didn’t meet their standards.
The team still boasts a robust starting lineup that features Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton. While injuries hampered their chances to make a serious bid for the Finals, it’s also true that the roster failed to gel as well as what many fans hoped when they got Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers last summer.
Everyone backing the Bucks hope the team will fare better in the coming season now that they’re in the second year of the Giannis-Dame experiment. The Bucks need to perform strongly in the coming season as teams are waiting for Giannis to become disillusioned with the franchise.
One analyst points out to one facet of the roster as the determining factor whether the team would succeed in the 2024-25 campaign.
Analyst points to coaching continuity as a key asset to the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2024-25 season
Kurt Helin of NBC Sports wrote a piece about the Bucks’ title window with Antetokounmpo and Lillard. While there are multiple factors that influence the shortening championship window, he points to one factor that could make or ruin the team’s campaign:
Continuity not drama — especially no mid-season coaching changes. Whatever one thinks of the firing of Adrian Griffin and if it was deserved, the entire situation was disruptive. Whatever one thinks of Doc Rivers, he’s a steady NBA coach with a system and who is good at smoothing egos. Just having him all season settles things down.
The change of coaching staff had an impact on how the team performed last season. Doc Rivers replaced Adrian Griffin around the All-Star break, and the Greek Freak described the coaching carousel the Bucks went through the past two seasons as “exhausting.”
Now that Rivers has an entire offseason to polish the Bucks’ game plan in his image, the entire roster will have immense pressure to perform in the biggest stage. If they fail to make the Finals by June 2025, their summer will be chaotic.
