On paper, a 6-4 record isn’t all that bad for the Milwaukee Bucks. However, considering how this team was expected to be a totally dominant force the moment they pulled the trigger on a blockbuster deal for Damian Lillard this past summer, you could say that they have failed to meet the lofty expectations everyone had on them before the season started.
To some extent, the criticism is indeed warranted.
Milwaukee Bucks HC Adrian Griffin Spills on ‘Toughest Part’ of Job
Speaking shortly after Milwaukee’s 119-108 win over the Chicago Bulls, head coach Adrian Griffin got brutally honest about the pressure he’s had to face as the head coach of such a high-profile team like the Bucks. The rookie shot-caller admitted that it has been anything but easy:
“There’s a lot of expectations on our team and the toughest part for me just managing those expectations,” said Griffin, via Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“Like we just won the game and I walk in the locker room and there’s this expectation we should win by 20 or 30 points. A win is a win – it’s about the process and it’s about getting better each game.”
While Griffin does have a point, there’s also no denying that there’s much more to winning than just winning. It’s not that you want to blow out your opponent every given night, but there’s still such a thing as an ugly win — especially for a team like the Bucks.
Based on Griffin’s statement here, it appears that there’s also a lot of pressure from within the squad. The external pressure is one thing, but having to deal with some sky-high expectations from your own players is an altogether different matter. In fact, Coach Griff admits that this has been the “toughest part” of his tenure thus far.
