The NFL is set to release their regular season schedule on Wednesday. The Green Bay Packers know one of their games. They will travel to Brazil to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on September 6. Over the course of the next few days, games will slowly be leaked until the the full schedule is released.
We know who the Green Bay Packers are playing this year as well as the home and road games. What we don’t know yet is when these games will occur outside of the Eagles game. Here are my predictions for Green Bay’s schedule setup.
The Green Bay Packers Will Have At Least 5 Prime Time Games
The Green Bay Packers will enter this season as one of the NFC contenders and one of the best teams in the league. If you had a successful season the year prior, the NFL will give you more prime time games. The more exposure of the better teams, the better is is for the league.
I am not sure who the prime time games will be against, but we know the Eagles will be one of those games. If I had to guess right now, I would say San Francisco, Chicago, and Detroit will all be a prime time game at some point.
Green Bay Will Play At Detroit on Thanksgiving Day
Detroit will always play at home on Thanksgiving Day in the early time slot. Last season, the Green Bay Packers were able to play in Detroit Thanksgiving Day and came out with a huge road win. That win changed the season for them.
Not only are these division teams, but Detroit and Green Bay will be seen as two of the better teams in the NFC. For how well this game went last season, I would not be surprised if the NFL did this for a second consecutive year. For a short week, a divisional opponent makes sense too.
The Green Bay Packers Will Play the Chicago Bears in Their Home Opener and to End the The Regular Season
The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears is the longest rivalry in the NFL. With number one overall pick Caleb Williams in Chicago, I would not be surprised if the Packers and Bears were a prime time game at Lambeau Field in Week 2. I think the Bears would open their season at home and I can’t see the Packers playing two road games in a row to begin the season.
The NFL has been scheduling division games at the end of the regular season for some time now. This game would make sense to end the regular season in Chicago. The Bears are seen by many as a playoff contender. A game in Chicago featuring two rivals with a playoff berth potentially on the line is something the league would want to entertain.
Green Bay Will Go 12-5 This Season
I won’t go into a full prediction of every game (I might as the season gets closer), but I like the overall setup for Green Bay. Based on last season, the toughest games appear to be at home with Detroit as the toughest road game. If your division opponent is the toughest road game, that is a good sign.
With this game being essentially a road game for Philadelphia too, Green Bay really only has seven road games compared to nine home games.
