The Milwaukee Brewers have plenty of young players for fans to be excited about. Garrett Mitchell was arguably the team’s best hitter in September after his call-up and is off to a hot start this Spring Training. Sal Frelick, while he may not start the season on the Major League roster, is considered the best pure hitter the Brewers have. William Contreras, acquired via trade, is coming off an All-Star season. Luis Urias is primed for a bounce-back season and, of course, there’s fan-favorite Willy Adames.
While all of these players give fans hope for a better season in 2023, Bleacher Report named Brice Turang as the Brewers’ most unlikely big contributor for 2023.
Brice Turang Could Make the Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day Roster

Wisconsin’s Brice Turang (2) throws to first base during the MiLB game between the Clinton Lumber Kings and Wisconsin Udder Tuggers at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on June 20, 2019 in Grand Chute, Wis. The Udder Tuggers won 5-2.
Personally, I feel like the Bleacher Report title is a little misleading. On first glance, it could indicate that they do not believe Turang will contribute at all. However, that is not what they are saying. Instead, the article states that Turang is flying under the radar as a player who could have a big impact on the Brewers in 2023.
“As a former first-round draft pick who’s occasionally appeared in top-100 prospect rankings, Brice Turang arguably has too much of a profile to appear in a list like this.
“We’ve included him partially on the grounds that he’s not in B/R’s top 100, but more so out of excitement over the new trick he showed in the minors last season. Those 13 home runs he hit were more than twice as many as he’d managed in any previous season, so he would seem to have another tool to go with his bat-to-ball skill and his defensive acumen.
“In other words, Turang is indeed deserving of the shot he’s poised to get as the Brewers’ everyday second baseman. He can ensure that Kolten Wong won’t be missed at the keystone.”
As Bleacher Report indicates, the Brewers no long have Kolten Wong at second base. While they have Luis Urias, he is more likely to be the team’s starting third baseman. Turang also has the ability to play centerfield, and while Milwaukee has a plethora of outfielders, positional versatility is something they value highly.
For 2023, it’s a matter of when, not if, Turang finally gets his shot.
