The Milwaukee Brewers have had a spark in their lineup since rookie outfielder Sal Frelick was called up from the minor leagues earlier in the season. Frelick is one of the reasons why the Brewers are knocking at the door for a potential National League Central crown. Entering Friday, Milwaukee’s magic number to win the division title is at 12.
They currently have a lead of 4.5 games over the Chicago Cubs (78-69 record) and the Cincinnati Reds (76-72 record) at seven games. Milwaukee’s record so far this season is 82-64. They are hoping to get to the 90-win threshold this season.
The Athletic released an article on Wednesday titled: “MLB All-30: We name each team’s most impressive rookie for the 2023 season,” and it was written by Rusin Dodd. The Milwaukee Brewers’ most impressive rookie this season, according to the article, was outfielder Sal Frelick.
It said:
“On Sunday, Frelick made one of the best catches of the year, preserving a no-hitter against the Yankees in the 10th inning in New York. The Brewers ultimately lost no-hit bid and the game, but the moment added to what has been a solid rookie debut for the 23-year-old. He’s managed to be worth 1.2 bWAR in 40 game since joining the Brewers in July.
Milwaukee Brewers Sal Frelick’s Stats and Journey to the MLB
Frelick has played in 43 games so far this season for the Brewers since being called up from the minor leagues. He has a .252 batting average with three home runs and 21 RBIs, along with six stolen bases and zero caught stealing attempts. His on-base percentage so far this season is .363, and his slugging percentage is .374, along with a .737 ops.
Frelick is 23 years old and bats from the left side of the plate and is a right-handed hitter. He is only 23 years old, and it only took him two years to reach the big leagues after being drafted 15th overall in the first round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Boston College.
Sal Frelick only played in three games in Double-A with the Biloxi Shuckers in 2023 and played in 40 games in Triple-A with the Nashville Sounds before being called up to the Milwaukee Brewers this season. His minor league stats this season were a .251 batting average with two home runs and 19 RBIs, along with eight stolen bases and four caught stealing attempts. Frelick’s on-base percentage was .344.
Frelick will be playing in right field for this franchise for years to come. He has a lot of potential, and Milwaukee Brewers fans probably can’t argue that he has been their best rookie this season.
