The Milwaukee Brewers are 24-17 and in first place in the National League Central Division. They currently have a half game lead over the Craig Counsell led Chicago Cubs and and five-and-a-half game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates, whom the Brewers are currently playing a series against.
On Monday night, Milwaukee dropped the opener of their home series against the Pirates by a score of 8-6, despite Jake Bauer‘s late grand slam that gave the Brewers some life for the first time in the game. Unfortunately, though, their biggest loss may have come in the form of an injury to one of the more productive hitters in their lineup.
The Milwaukee Brewers Place First Baseman Rhys Hoskins on the 10-Day IL

As documented last night, Hoskins was removed from the game after hitting a single in the first inning. After rounding the bases, he clutched his leg and had to be taken out.
After the game, it was revealed that Hoskins was going to get a second opinion on the injury before the team made any decisions about a possible IL stint. The first baseman missed the entire season last year due to an ACL tear during spring training with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Earlier today, the Brewers announced that Hoskins was indeed being put on the 10-day injured list. Owen Miller was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to take Hoskins’ spot on the roster.

It is interesting that Miller got the call up over highly-touted prospect Tyler Black, who made his Major League debut earlier this month. On the other hand, Miller is a right-handed hitter while Black is left-handed. Miller also gives the Brewers positional versatility while Black only plays first base.
Rhys Hoskins Has Performed Well for the Milwaukee Brewers Thus Far

So far this season, Hoskins is hitting .233/.340/.474 with a team-leading nine home runs and 27 RBI. His power from the right side of the plate is exactly why Milwaukee signed him in the first place. During his six healthy seasons with the Phillies, Hoskins hit 30 or more home runs twice, and over 27 home runs four times.
In Hoskins’ absence, the Brewers are going to be lacking a bit of right-handed power in their lineup. That is, unless Gary Sanchez can start hitting on a more consistent basis.
While he is out, first base will likely be played by Sanchez, Bauers, and Miller.
Hoskins is the 12th Brewers player to be placed on IL this season.
