Green Bay Packers: Unexpected Wide Receiver News Takes Left Turn For Offense

The Green Bay Packers figure to have one of the youngest and deepest wide receiving corps in the league in 2024.  If Christian Watson can stay healthy, this group can be extremely dangerous.  Not having a “number one wide receiver” has never been a better thing for Green Bay.

However, some news surfaced this week that links the team to a veteran addition that not many analysts have been talking about.

According to Patrick McAavoy of The Sporting News:

The Green Bay Packers should be considering all options to improve right now.

Green Bay had a great 2023 season and performed well above expectations. The Packers shined and young quarterback Jordan Love showed promise. Green Bay has to sort out how it’s going to handle Love’s contract situation but it seems like he will be with the Packers for a long time.

The Packers have some young weapons at Love’s disposal, but there has been talk of adding more this offseason. Green Bay even has been linked to the San Francisco 49ers in a possible deal for star receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

Green Bay doesn’t need to necessarily make a major trade to improve, though. There still are some options out there in free agency that could help.

One player that could be a solid option for the Packers would be former New Orleans Saints star Michael Thomas.

At one point he was the best receiver in football but injuries have plagued him since 2020. He appeared in 10 games last season but still dealt with the injury bug.

If he’s finally healthy, he could be a solid depth option with upside that also wouldn’t cost too much. The Packers have plenty of cap space and certainly could afford Thomas. Why not take a chance on him and give Love another weapon?

Will The Packers Add To Their Wide Receivers?

At this point it would likely take an injury (or more than one) for the Packers to sign a veteran wide receiver.  The Packers are committed to this young squad gelling for years to build chemistry.

However, a veteran like Thomas could be an instant trustworthy target for Jordan Love.  While injuries have plagued his career lately, he was once regarded as one of the best wide receivers in football.

Having a veteran for this young team to learn from would be incredible.
