The Milwaukee Brewers have made a roster move ahead of their weekend series against the Atlanta Braves. Being reinstated off the 60-day injured list is left-handed reliever Justin Wilson. He is the 53rd different player to wear a Brewers uniform this season. That exactly matches last season’s total.
Justin Wilson reinstated by the Milwaukee Brewers prior to series vs the Atlanta Braves.
Left-handed reliever Justin Wilson, who turns 36 years old in the middle of August, underwent Tommy John surgery in July of 2022. Despite actively recovering and rehabbing the Brewers signed him to a contract during the off-season. He is now active and ready to make an impact on the team.
Throughout his 11 year playing career Wilson holds a 3.41 ERA and a 9.8 K:9 ratio. Baseball savant has his 2022 average fastball velocity at 94 MPH and his cutter 90 MPH. While rehabbing with the Nashville Sounds there were reports of him returning to those velocities.
The return of Justin Wilson may impact what the Brewers do at the trade deadline. Him returning is essentially like trading for a left-handed reliever. Additionally Aaron Ashby could return in late August/early September as well. This makes targeting southpaws before the August 1 trade deadline seem like not much of an urgent need.
Hopefully Wilson can carve out an important role with the Brewers over the final two months of the season. He has a $2.50 MM club option for next season, in which if he does well he could easily out perform that base salary.
