The Milwaukee Brewers have a knack for improving their big league roster via trade. Players like Joel Payamps, William Contreras, and Elvis Peguero were all acquired through deals last off-season and already this winter GM Matt Arnold has swung trades for Jake Bauers, Taylor Clarke, and Oliver Dunn. Could a recently available two time batting champion from the Miami Marlins be their next trade target?
Constructing a Milwaukee Brewers and Miami Marlins trade proposal for Luis Arraez.
Luis Arraez has won the batting title each of the past two seasons, but with different teams. In 2022 he hit for a .316 batting average with the Minnesota Twins and in 2023 he had an outstanding .354 batting average with the Miami Marlins. With two arbitration years remaining, and the Marlins and him unable to agree to terms on a salary for 2024, reports have surfaced that Miami is listening to offers for him.
According to MLB Insider Mark Feinsand, Arraez filed for $12 million while the Marlins countered with $10.6 million. This is his third year of arbitration, but due to being a super-two player 2025 will be his fourth and final year of team control before being eligible to hit free agency.
What could a trade package between the Milwaukee Brewers and Miami Marlins look like?
Brewers receive: 2B Luis Arraez
Marlins receive: INF Brice Turang and OF Joey Wiemer
This proposal gives the Marlins two MLB players at positions of need. Turang could replace Arraez at second base or slide over to shortstop. This would also allow Jazz Chisholm the opportunity to come back to the infield instead of playing center field.
Miami additionally needs outfielders and while the right-handed hitting Wiemer struggled offensively in his rookie season he plays a good defense and has good power potential. Wiemer could easily take steps forward at the plate in his sophomore season. Additionally Milwaukee has a surplus of outfielders and moving Wiemer would create a clearer big league path for prized prospect Jackson Chourio.
On Baseball Trade Values this deal is accepted by their model. In his mock trade proposal the Brewers would receive a total value of 30.2 whereas the Marlins 32.30.

This could quite possibly be one of the worst trades I’ve ever seen. The Marlins are just gonna fork over a Batting Champion for two players whose combined aren’t as good as Arraez alone They hit a COMBINED .211 with 76 RBI’s, 94 Runs, 74 walks, 37 Steals, and 210 K’s in 771 AB’s. This trade proposal would be laughed off the phone.
